Man In The Kitchen
You’ll see a man in the kitchen if you take the time to look,
home from work on time because he just loves to cook.
He’s picked up good workflow organization and it helps him get things done quick and with ease
and has learned his wife’s busy day tricks – khichadi with paneer and peas.
There’s a man in the kitchen getting dinner done on time.
A change much needed and his wife is thrilled – things are going just fine!
Exploring Patriarchy – Chapter 31
There are times in life when things just fall into place, and there are times when nothing does. When everything is an effort. And when life changes so much that every routine that was comfortable no longer runs smoothly and has to be reworked.
For some this means holding on to old ways. And holding on to the struggle until it becomes a dear friend. An accomplishment even.
For Microwave Madam and those who have serious hobbies, it’s just a matter of making time and prioritizing what makes one happy.
My ONE is and always has been music. Singing and playing the piano. Dancing madly – or to be more accurate – moving energetically to music, kind of like a workout. With the curtains shut of course – one doesn’t want to frighten the neighbours.
My husband has a lot more hobbies than I do, and I think he’s only recently discovered his ONE. It’s cooking, so he’s joins a list of men that we know, who love to cook and have taken over the kitchen at home. And with that, I join a list of happy wives who can cook when they feel like it and not because they have no choice.
In case you’re wondering – khichadi with paneer and peas is a rare occurrence – it just rhymed well. Mostly we cut cooking time by cooking for 3 meals in one go and with a fixed menu. Dal, rice, veg, & on some days a little chicken. In rotation, so on a usual day, just 2 items need to be cooked.
I invite you to read all chapters of Exploring Patriarchy and walk with Microwave Madam as she explores the impact of patriarchy on her life and on society. And looks for solutions.
